6 Month Check-Up

This is a photo of the four bandaids on her legs after her shots.  Poor baby!

Payton had her 6 month well-baby visit on Wednesday.  This visit ended up taking almost 2 hours!  Chad and I normally both try to go to these visits, but he couldn't this time because he had track practice.  I had been noticing this sort of faint ridge of Payton's forehead for about a month now, so I mentioned it to her pediatrician.  The ped. didn't seem very concerned, but she ordered an xray anyway just to be sure.  Poor Payton had to endure 4 shots and then I had to take her down to Xray, where it took four of us to hold her down while they took the pictures.  It was awful!!!  The results came back on Friday, and they were inconclusive.  So....we are going in tomorrow morning for a CT at 10:30.  Please pray that everything is ok.  There is a possibility that the ridge might be caused from her skull bones fusing together too quickly.  I started looking on the Internet Wednesday evening, and Chad told me to get off and stop freaking myself out.  I felt reassured after I talked to my friend, Kristy, who is a NICU nurse.  She said that if Payton still has a soft spot on the top of her head (which she does), then that was a good sign because it allowed for brain growth.  I will post on here as soon as we find anything out.  I am not sure if the radiologist can read the results tomorrow, or if we will have to wait a few days to find out.

Stats from visit:
Weight:  14 pounds, 8 ounces (10-25th percentile)
Height:  26 1/2 inches (50-75th percentile)
Head Circumference:  16 5/8 inches (25-50th percentile)

A Must-Read

Last week my friend Kaylan posted a link on her blog to another blog that she reads.  I am so grateful that she posted this, because ever since I read this entry, I have found myself checking it daily to see new updates.  This story is probably the most amazing and moving story I've ever heard.  Every time I read it, I bawl like a baby.  I encourage you to read this, but be prepared and grab some kleenex!

Happy 80th Birthday, Grandma Whitlatch!

Tomorrow is my Grandma Whitlatch's 80th Birthday!  I can't believe she is 80!  She is such an amazing woman.  She still prepares the best Thanksgiving and Christmas meals  feasts ever!  You would never guess that she is 80.  If you happened to see the Milestones section in the DM Register today, her picture is in there.

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

Happy Birthday Uncle Aaron and Grandpa Allspach

My brother and Dad have back-to-back birthdays.  Aaron's is February 18 and my dad's is February 19.  We were supposed to celebrate all the February birthdays on my side of the family today at my parents' house.  However, we decided to cancel it yesterday after hearing the forecast.  It was supposed to start snowing last night at midnight and we were supposed to get 6-12 inches.  It's now 3:40 PM on Sunday afternoon and we haven't had a flake.  This weather is really getting irritating.  I was really looking forward to celebrating with the family.  My grandparents were supposed to come since tomorrow is my grandma's 80th Birthday.  Plus I wanted to see Jess' ring!  :)  We are going to try to get together next weekend and hope the weather is ok.  Hard telling though...

Giving up Facebook

Well, I decided that I would give up my addiction--Facebook--for Lent.  Chad and I were listening to the radio on Wednesday morning and they were talking about things to give up.  One of the DJs said she was giving up Facebook.  I said that I should try it, to which Chad responded, "There is no way you could do that."  So, I am going to prove him wrong.  So far, it hasn't been too bad.  I still have my blogs, email, and text messaging, so that helps!

Congratulations, Aaron and Jess!

My brother called us Tuesday night with some very exciting news - he and Jess got engaged!  We are so happy for the two of them!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Chad's birthday was on Monday.  To celebrate, I made him a spaghetti dinner and a cake.  Nothing fancy, but he said he just enjoyed being able to spend the evening with his family.  :)  I got him a UNI polo and a UNI coffee mug.  Payton got him a KC Chiefs hat (for herself, so she can match him when he wears his).  Chad also started track practice on Monday.  It's hard to believe that the season is already here.  He is excited to start, but says he misses his girls at home!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here is Payton opening up her Valentine's gift from Mommy and Daddy.  I also posted a photo of my beautiful roses from Chad.

Busy Weekend!

This was quite a busy weekend for us!  Friday after school, my friend Jill stopped by with her son, Fletcher.  Payton and Fletcher hadn't seen each other for awhile, so they had lots of catching up to do!  :)  Then Friday night Chad and I went on our first date since Payton was born.  We went to White Oak Winery for a Valentine's dinner.  We had a great time!  Then on Saturday we were timers at the State Swim meet here in Marshalltown.  We were lucky enough to get Lane 4 (the fast lane), so it was  a lot of fun.  You have to get right down by the pool to see where the swimmers touch the wall at the finish, so we both got very wet.  It was an exciting time!  Thanks so much to my parents for watching Payton both Friday night and Saturday afternoon!!  Saturday night our friends Jessica and Keith and Sara and Mike came over with their kids.  It was so fun to get together and have all four kids play.  Well, Payton couldn't really do much with them, but she sure tried.  Today Chad and I exchanged our Valentine's before church.  He got me some roses and a Fleetwood Mac greatest hits CD and I got him Kris Allen's CD and some chocolates.  Payton has not opened her gift from us yet.  I'll have to post some pictures of this tomorrow.  This afternoon we gave Payton carrots for the first time.  She seemed to like them ok - better than the bland rice cereal that we have been trying to feed her!  :)

6 Months Old

Payton is 6 MONTHS OLD today!!!  I can't believe it!

We love her so much.  I know I say this all the time, but she is the light of our lives and such a joy and blessing.  These past 6 months have been the best.

A stop in Baxter

On our way home from Altoona on Saturday, we stopped in Baxter to see Grandpa and Grandma Allspach.  Uncle Aaron was there, too.  They were sure happy we stopped by.

Meeting some friends

On Saturday we met my college roommate, Emily, and her husband and kids for lunch at Applebee's in Altoona.  Her son, Aiden, will be 3 next month and her daughter, Olivia, is 2 months.  They live in California right now, and were back to Iowa to visit and have Olivia baptized.  We sure had a good time with them catching up and letting the kids meet each other.  Wish we lived closer.  I forsee a trip to CA in our near future!  :)
